Electrical Wiring & Rewiring Services in the North Shore

Serving Salem, Beverly, Danvers, Peabody, Lynn & Surrounding Areas

Electrical wiring is one of the most important features in your home. It’s also one of the most invisible features, which makes it easy to forget how dangerous it can be. When your wiring fails or needs to be updated, trying to rewire it yourself can result in serious injury and significant damage to your home. It’s best to let an experienced electrician do the job, which will ensure that it’s done safely and set up correctly to work well for many years. Make the best decision for you and your home by calling the professionals at Cranney Home Services for all your wiring and rewiring needs!

Whole-House Electrical Rewiring

If your home is more than 40 years old or your electrical system does not seem to be able to keep up with your energy needs, you may benefit from whole-home rewiring to update your electrical system. Rewiring your home can bring it up to code for sale, since outdated systems sometimes don’t comply with safety regulations. Rewiring will also make your home safer and more able to meet your modern needs for electricity.

Signs That You Should Have An Electrician Rewire Your Home:

  • Flickering lights
  • Frequently tripped breakers or blown fuses
  • Singed outlets
  • Burning smells
  • An outdated fuse box
  • An inadequate amount of outlets and switches for your needs
  • Sparks from outlets when you plug in or unplug a cord
If you’re experiencing any of these issues, call Cranney Home Services to evaluate your electrical system. If a whole-home rewiring is needed, we’ll work quickly to perform this valuable update and give you a durable, reliable, and safe electrical system. For whole-house rewiring in the North Shore, trust the professionals at Cranney Home Services. Contact us online or call us at 978-750-6900 to schedule service.

Knob & Tube Replacement

If your home was built between 1900 and 1960, you most likely have knob and tube wiring. You can recognize it by the white ceramic knobs that look like spools. These knobs hold the wires in place, and ceramic tubes encase the wires. This type of wiring only has two wires and does not have a ground to absorb excess current, making your home susceptible to electrical shocks and fires. Knob and tube wiring is also hazardous because the rubber insulation degrades over time, exposing the wires.

This outdated form of wiring can’t keep up with modern electrical needs and should be replaced to make your home safe. The experienced professionals at Cranney Home Services are familiar with knob and tube wiring and can remove it, then rewire your home with a modern electrical system.

Do you have knob and tube wiring in your home, or are you unsure if you have knob and tube wiring? Call Cranney Home Services at 978-750-6900 or contact us online. We can identify knob and tube wiring and replace it to make your North Shore home safer!

Electrical Appliance Wiring

Modern appliances require a large amount of power and should be installed with special considerations. Small appliances like blenders and hair dryers can be plugged into regular outlets without issue, but large appliances like washing machines need their own dedicated power source to avoid overloading your electrical system. At Cranney Home Services, we can help you install your new appliance exactly where you need it to go. We wire the following appliances:

  • Washers and dryers
  • Refrigerators
  • Dishwashers
  • Water heaters
  • Pools
  • Air conditioners
  • Sump pumps
  • Microwaves
  • Exterior lighting
  • Smart systems

Need to install a new appliance? Trust the experienced electricians at Cranney Home Services for appliance wiring in the North Shore. Contact us online or call us at 978-750-6900 today!

Wiring Code Compliance

The NEC (National Electrical Code) and other local codes are established to keep homes safe. Not only will you be unable to sell your home if it’s not up to code, but you’re also living with a constant risk of electrical shocks, fires, damaged appliances, and other potential consequences. Our licensed electricians are knowledgeable in the NEC and all codes applicable to Massachusetts and the North Shore. Our wiring work conforms to all local and national codes to ensure that your home is safe, efficient, and ready for sale. As we work with your electrical system, we will also identify any code infractions and unsafe components, letting you know what needs to be done to correct them.

For safe, code-compliant wiring services in the North Shore, call Cranney Home Services at 978-750-6900 or contact us online.

Home Wiring FAQs

A standard electrical outlet is powered by a 120-volt wire. Most large appliances with motors (washing machines, refrigerators, dishwashers, etc.) need more than 120 volts. They need their own dedicated 240-volt outlet to ensure that they have enough power and to avoid overloading the circuit on a standard outlet.

The most obvious way is to look at your electrical outlets. If they have three holes instead of two, they are grounded. However, older homes may have been renovated, leaving some outlets grounded and others not. If you’re unsure whether your home lacks this important safety feature, call the experts at Cranney Home Services to take a look.

In general, properly installed wiring can be expected to last at least 50 years, and as long as 100. The life span of a home’s wiring will be greatly impacted by the material, the installation, the conditions, and the use. If your home’s wiring is 40+ years old, it might be good to have it inspected.

A burning smell means that something is overheating, which needs to be addressed immediately. It could be caused by overloaded fuses or damaged wires. No matter the cause, you should stop using the switch and contact Cranney Home Services for an inspection to correct the problem as soon as possible.

Your electrical system will produce several warning signs if it's experiencing problems. If you’d like to test it yourself, however, you can purchase a multimeter. Also known as a volt-ohm meter, a multimeter is a handheld tester used to measure electrical voltage, current (amperage), resistance, and other aspects. If you choose to use a multimeter, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to prevent injury.
